Extra Gold
is
a country music cocktail that is equal parts Golden-Era Country Revival, Folk, and Rock & Roll
Extra Gold is a Denver-based, five-piece band steeped in golden era country and road-worn rock & roll while channeling the free-flowing spirit of early ’70s. Their sound drifts easily between twang and transcendence—equal parts grit and grace— at times drawing comparisons to country dipped rock & rollers of the past like The Marshall Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers and Texas dancehall hero’s like Gary Stewart. All the while simultaneously guided by the expansive improvisational soul of the Grateful Dead. Their live performances feel grounded and exploratory. Extra Gold makes music that feels lived-in, unhurried, and deeply human.
Kansas City born, Northern Michigan raised frontman, songwriter and founder of the band Evan Holm attempts to challenge listeners with a sound that is original but well studied. With a blatant attempt to inform listeners of dirt road, beer on the tailgate country listeners of a more expansive country music landscape. Extra Gold released their debut album High & Lonesome in 2018, which landed the award of best Country Band in Colorado by 303 Magazine and Westword Magazine in 2019. The band recently pregamed their 2026 full length release with a performance at Mission Ballroom, opening for Charley Crocket that has literally spawned Reddit conversations begging the question, “Who the hell are these guys?”
Live performances feel honest, self reflective, and emotionally charged. With one foot rooted in tradition and the other pointed towards a sound that uniquely its own, Extra Gold continues to carve out a sound that honors the past while chasing something that is as original as it is timeless.
"Extra Gold will take you on a trip through time to when Denver was just a small mining town. The group’s old-timey sound just makes you want to get up and stomp your boots and spin your partner around and around on the dance floor. Hot off their debut EP, Extra Gold harkens back to Denver’s roots to give listeners a wild west experience no matter where they might be when they hear this magnificently fun band." - 303 magazine
"The band's first release, High & Lonesome, which dropped November 26, is an impressive debut. It's the rare case in which the band sounds as good on the recording as it does during live performances." - Westword Magazine
"High & Lonesome, which is an 8-track LP mix of cosmic country ballads and boot-stompin’ bangers is a very solid debut for this Colorado band. The record was recorded with Mark Anderson in Denver. Tracks like “Emily” showcase the band’s incredible harmonies, “When The Matches Meet The Wood” has fiery strings that will force you to your feet, and title track “High And Lonesome” is the record’s crooner, a tune that is perfect for your favorite fireside playlist this season." - Boulder Beat
